Asa-No-Hana

$3.00

A dense and extremely strong handmade kozo paper. The fibres in Arashi are coarse and variegated. “Arashi” translates as storm, which very appropriately describes this paper most often used for collage and chigiri-e. A father and son make our Arashi papers in the traditional way in a small Japanese village.

Washi is the word for traditional papers made by hand. The art of washi is an extremely labour intensive process starting with the harvest and preparation of kozo, gampi, or mitsumata fibres. Each sheet is formed, dried, and decorated by hand. For this reason, each sheet, and certainly each batch of handmade papers will have slight variations in weight, texture, and colour.
